IPL & Radio Frequency Therapy
Advanced Dry Eye & Eyelid Rejuvenation at Auburn Westboro Eye Associates
At Auburn Westboro Eye Associates, we offer Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Radio Frequency (RF) therapy to treat the underlying causes of dry eye disease, not just the symptoms. These advanced, in-office treatments are designed to improve the function of the meibomian glands, which are responsible for producing the healthy oils that keep your tears from evaporating too quickly.
If you experience burning, stinging, redness, fluctuating vision, or a gritty sensation, IPL and RF may provide long-lasting relief.
What Is IPL Therapy?
Intense Pulsed Light therapy uses controlled pulses of light applied to the skin around the eyelids.
- Reduces inflammation
- Improves oil gland function
- Decreases abnormal blood vessels associated with rosacea
- Helps stabilize the tear film
IPL is especially beneficial for patients with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) or ocular rosacea, two common causes of chronic dry eye.
What Is Radio Frequency (RF)?
Radio Frequency therapy uses gentle heat energy to:
- Warm and soften thickened gland secretions
- Stimulate collagen production
- Improve eyelid skin tightening
- Enhance overall gland performance
RF complements IPL by improving gland expression and enhancing treatment outcomes.
Additional Cosmetic Benefits
In addition to improving dry eye symptoms, IPL and RF treatments can also:
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Improve under-eye puffiness
- Minimize sun spots and skin discoloration
- Tighten and smooth eyelid skin
What to Expect
Treatments are performed in our office and typically take 20 to 30 minutes. Most patients require a series of sessions for optimal results. There is little to no downtime, and you can return to normal activities shortly after treatment.
